People often describe the childhood years in terms such as simple or idyllic.  Indeed there are many pure and sweet moments in a young person's life. Yet childhood can also hold times of confusion, sadness, or anger as young people struggle to make sense of the world and the difficult things they may be experiencing.

My aim is to provide children and teens with a space to explore and process these feelings through talk, through play, and through art. Using CBT and mindfulness techniques I help kids learn skills to manage their complex feelings. I'm particularly passionate about working with pre-teens and teens and supporting them as they wrestle with some of life's bigger questions. Adolescence is a difficult and exciting time with many opportunities for growth. This work can take place individually or within small groups.

With gentleness and respect I work with families to gain a full understanding of what issues are at play and determine a course for healing. I use a holistic approach. Rather than just putting a band-aid on the presenting problem, I work to bring all areas of a child's life into balance, including:  family dynamics, school performance, social skills, health/nutrition, creative outlets, expressive ability, etc.

Some of the issues I most commonly work with:

  • School adjustment

  • Bullying

  • Family issues

  • Adoption

  • Divorce

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Anger/acting out

  • Substance use/ experimentation

  • Identity development

  • Body image & self-esteem/Eating disorders

  • Sexuality

  • Emotional literacy

  • Affect regulation

  • Health (coping with illness)

  • Loss & Bereavement
